The company that is now known as Panamericana Hoteles is a continuation of the privately owned company created by Jorge E. Meiss in Chile in 1946.
Working in the hotel industry as a family tradition, he stared his career in Chile in 1936 in the recently inaugurated Hotel O’Higgins.
From the year 1946 onwards, Jorge E. Meiss created and managed his own hotel company, and took over the administration of various other hotels throughout Chile.
On April 6th, 1959, he created the Company “Hotelera Panamericana S.A.” as a consequence of the change in the trading name of the company he started in 1946.
This new company took on the management of various hotels, among them: Hotel Gran Palace of Santiago, Hotel Condell of Valparaíso, Hotel O'Higgins of Viña del Mar and thanks to his initiative and constant faith in tourism in Chile, he created the Hotels Cabo de Hornos in Punta Arenas, Hosteria Dos Lagunas in Puerto Natales, Hostería Wala of Puerto Williams on Navarino Island, Hotel El Conquistador in Santiago and Hotel Araucano in Concepción. He also took control of the Hotel Camino del Inca in El Salvador, Hotel Miramar in Viña del Mar and he acquired Hotel Arica located in Arica.
He established in Chile a Professional and Technical School in Hotel activity, thanks to which Panamericana Hotels possesses a prestigious reputation for guest service based on the professional training of his staff.
Panamericana Hotels has organized important events in the tourism industry and has participated and collaborated in promotional activities in general. It participated in the organization of the first Hotel Congress in Viña del Mar, the first Gastronomy Congress, the creation of Tourism boards throughout the country, the creation of the Chilean Tourism Board, and collaborated in the first ACHET meeting among others.
At present the Company manages Panamericana Hotel O'Higgins in Viña del Mar and owns Panamericana Hotel & Resort Arica, Panamericana Hotel Antofagasta, the Panamericana Hotel Providencia in Santiago, Panamericana Hotel Temuco and Chiloé's Panamericana Hotel Ancud. |
