Viña del Mar, known as the “Garden City” for its ornamentation of well-kept plants, green areas and abundant trees, Viña del Mar possesses such attractions as: the Clock of Flowers, botanical gardens, a casino, the Vergara and Rioja palaces, the Laguna Sausalito housing the municipal stadium, and its extensive beaches such as Reñaca, Caleta Abarca, Las Salinas and Acapulco. From the plazas you can even hire a horse-drawn carriage to tour the city. It is also home to the annual International Song Festival which is held every February in the amphitheater of the Quinta Vergara.
The seaside resorts of Quintero, Concón and Horcón also stand out in this province as does Peñuelas National Reserve, a place where you can enjoy a picnic, and go fishing or camping. Lake Peñuelas, apart from being the principal attraction within the reserve, serves as the main water supply for the region.
Also belonging to this province is the Juan Fernández Archipelago, known for one of its islands named Robinson Crusoe Island, which served as the inspiration to write the novel of the same name. It is also a Unesco World Biosphere Reserve for its unmatched landscapes, flora and fauna. |
